AMERIPATH APPOINTS MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF IT'S CENTER FOR ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS
Riviera Beach, FL, December 15, 2000 – AmeriPath Inc, (NASDAQ: PATH),

and related healthcare information services, announced today the appointment
of Russell L. Maiese, M.D. as Medical Director and the Director of Hematopathology
at the Company’s Center for Advanced Diagnostics, located in Orlando,
Florida.
The Center for Advanced Diagnostics (CAD) offers a full array
of diagnostics for hematopoietic and solid tissue malignancies,
including molecular genetics, cytogenetics, flow cytometry, specialized
immunohistochemistry, and minimal residual disease detection.
Dr. Maiese is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology,
with certification in the subspecialty of hematopathology. He
has most recently served as the Director of Clinical Consultative
Services for Cytometry Associates, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Prior positions included hematopathologist for Dianon Systems,
Stratford, Connecticut, as well as Assistant Professorship in
the Department of Pathology at the University of Florida College
of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida, and the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Maiese has
authored numerous published articles and professional abstracts.
CAD’s staff includes several doctoral scientists with
extensive experience and credentials in molecular genetics, cytogenetics,
flow cytometry, and pathology. Pathologists, board certified
in anatomic and clinical pathology, with subspecialty expertise
in hematopathology, cytopathology, and solid tumor diagnosis
complete the medical and scientific staff. In addition to diagnostic
testing for both AmeriPath and non-AmeriPath physicians, hospitals,
and other healthcare providers, CAD is able to perform developmental
work for diagnostic manufacturers, clinical research organizations
