AMERIPATH RESTRUCTURES SALES AND MARKETING ORGANIZATION

Riviera Beach, FL, January 15, 2001 - AmeriPath Inc, (NASDAQ: PATH), the nation's largest company focused on providing anatomic pathology, cancer diagnostic and related healthcare information services, announced today that it has divided its sales and marketing organizations into two separate divisions.

After the completion of market research, including customer focus groups and the demographic distribution of patients and referring physicians, along with closely examining the current business model, two distinct field sales organizations have been created to provide dedicated service and support to referring physicians along specialty lines.  Both organizations will be under the direction of Bruce Walton, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Contracting.

Dermpath Diagnostics, which will be led by Annette L. Bell, Vice President and General Manager, will focus on servicing and growing the national skin pathology market comprised of dermatologists, plastic surgeons, family practitioners, otolaryngologists, and podiatrists. This division, which represents AmeriPath's 67 board-certified dermatopathologists, will expand its sales and marketing initiative throughout the U.S. market.

The existing AmeriPath field sales organization, led by Ed Dooling, Vice President and General Manager, has the responsibility for servicing and growing the outpatient anatomic pathology market with urologists, gastroenterologists, gynecologists, surgery centers, oncologists and any specialist requiring esoteric laboratory testing, which is provided through our Center for Advanced Diagnostics.

AmeriPath's Contracting Division will support both organizations in managed care contracting efforts in the field.

AmeriPath's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, James C. New, commented, "These newly developed sales and marketing divisions are comprised of over 40 sales professionals who are dedicated to responding to the specific needs of our referring physicians and their patients.  This strategic positioning enables AmeriPath to better serve our customers and meet or exceed our same store growth initiatives for 2001."
