AMERIPATH ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC ALLIANCE WITH gMED

Riviera Beach, FL, October 2, 2002 - AmeriPath, Inc. (NASDAQ: PATH), a leading national provider of cancer diagnostics, genomic and related information services, today announced that it has formalized a strategic alliance with gMed. Through this agreement, gMed will automate traditional pathology sample and result delivery through secure electronic transactions. AmeriPath in turn will promote gCare™ nationwide on a non-exclusive basis throughout its national sales network. AmeriPath and gMed will also work together in several research and development projects designed to provide best-practice information and simplify communications at the point of care.
