OF ITS CLEVELAND, OHIO FACILITY
OAKWOOD VILLAGE/BEDFORD, OHIO – April 10, 2006 – AmeriPath,
Inc., a leading provider of anatomic pathology, dermatopathology,
molecular diagnostics, and advanced clinical laboratory
testing, is pleased to announce the expansion of its Cleveland,
Ohio facility.
The facility, which has been completely remodeled and
expanded from 9,000 to 15,000 square feet, supports the
local operations of three AmeriPath entities – AmeriPath
Cleveland, DermPath Diagnostics, and the Institute of Gastrointestinal
Pathology and Digestive Disease.
"In keeping with its mission of providing expert
diagnostic information and supporting local pathology and
community-based medicine, AmeriPath Cleveland provides
surgical pathology diagnoses for 62,000 patients annually,
including diagnoses of surgical specimens, skin samples,
and biopsies from the gastrointestinal tract." said
Managing Director Robert E. Petras, M.D. Dr. Petras, a
world-renowned GI pathologist, and his faculty of experienced
subspecialty pathologists also consults for approximately
2,000 diagnostically challenging GI and liver cases referred
to the Institute from physicians around the world.
The facility expansion includes a conference room and
a separate multiheaded microscope room, specifically dedicated
to physician education and training. In addition to utilizing
the new facility to support its GI pathology fellowship
program, AmeriPath’s GI Institute will also utilize
the facility to provide rotational training of AmeriPath’s
own GI pathologists in a continuing effort to enhance and
fine-tune subspecialty diagnostic skills.
AmeriPath Cleveland’s expanded facility will be
officially dedicated at an April 11, 2006 ribbon-cutting
ceremony. Among the notables in attendance will be U.S.
Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, of Ohio’s 11th
District. "I am very excited about the dedication
of Cleveland's newly expanded AmeriPath facility. As one
of the leading anatomic pathology practices in the United
States, this expansion will offer additional training,
education and research opportunities for physicians both
here and across the country," said Representative
Tubbs Jones in anticipation of the event
“The brand new building demonstrates our commitment
to Cleveland and the surrounding region. It is anticipated
that this expansion, coupled with the integration of our
new Esoteric Services Division Specialty Laboratories,
will continue the momentum that has resulted in remarkable
growth over the past few years.” said Dr. Petras.
He added, “The distinctive expertise of our pathologists
plays a key role in treatment decisions that can directly
affect a patient’s life. Our dermatopathologists
and cytopathologists are all subspecialty board-certified,
and our GI subspecialty skills are nationally-known and
highly regarded.”
Dr. Petras was recently designated as a Fellow of The
American Gastroenterological Association, a distinction
reserved for those whose superior accomplishments and
contributions demonstrate a personal commitment to the
field of gastroenterology and he will be duly honored
during the AGA annual meeting in May 2006. Dr. Petras
will, henceforth, have earned the right to use the letters
AGAF professionally.
The expansion dedication ceremony is scheduled to take
place at AmeriPath Cleveland on April 11, 2006 (4:40 PM).
An estimated 100 dignitaries from the medical and legal
communities, as well as key AmeriPath executives and staff,
