AMERIPATH ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF EDWARD R. UHLEMANN, M.D., AS DIRECTOR OF GASTROINTESTINAL DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES, AMERIPATH FLORIDA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Palm Beach Gardens, FL, May 15, 2006 — AmeriPath, Inc., a leading national provider of physician-based anatomic pathology, dermatopathology, and molecular diagnostic services to physicians, hospitals, clinical laboratories, and surgery centers, is pleased to announce the appointment of Edward R. Uhlemann, M.D. as Director of Gastrointestinal Diagnostics, AmeriPath Florida. AmeriPath Florida GI diagnostics will focus on providing primary GI histological services, consultations on difficult cases, and esoteric testing to assist physicians in the diagnosis and management of GI and digestive disease.

Dr. Uhlemann will head the current team of GI pathology specialists in Florida, Scott Y. Sittler and Michael Slattery, and continue its development and expansion of dedicated GI specialty services in the state. Dr. Uhlemann offers over 25 years of experience in anatomic and diagnostic services, with a concentration on gastroenterology. He has distinguished himself while serving in several positions of great trust and responsibility in both the academic and clinical service arenas. Academically, Dr. Uhlemann served as an assistant professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, University of Cincinnati. Clinically, Dr. Uhlemann served as Chief of Gastroenterology and Chief of Endoscopy, Orlando Regional Healthcare System; and as Chief of Endoscopy and Chief of Medicine, Humana Hospital Lucerne (Orlando).

Dr. Uhlemann — the only U.S.-trained and board-certified gastroenterologist/pathologist with a subspecialty fellowship in GI pathology — is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Uhlemann completed two residencies — internal medicine (gastroenterology subspecialty) at the University of Florida Medical Center and pathology at the Orlando Regional Medical Center. He also completed a highly unusual total of three fellowships — gastroenterology at the University of Florida Medical Center, gastroenterology at the National Institutes of Health, and GI pathology at the University of Cincinnati, with the latter being under the tutelage of world-renowned pathologist Dr. Cecilia Fenoglio-Preiser.

Dr. Uhlemann was the CEO and managing partner of a 14-physician, 200-employee group of gastroenterologists and nephrologists. After 13 years of private practice, he felt the need to pursue new horizons, choosing pathology because of his conviction that it is the one field in medicine that provides constant intellectual challenge. Just prior to joining AmeriPath, he traveled and worked as an adventure guide, leading monthly trips to sites in over 100 countries, including Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Machu Picchu in Peru, and the Himalayas. During his travels, Dr. Uhlemann also took advantage of the opportunities to live with headhunters in Borneo and to search for Komodo dragons in the wilds of Indonesia.

Dr. Larry Cribbett, Executive Managing Director, AmeriPath Florida stated “I am pleased to welcome Dr. Uhlemann to the AmeriPath Florida practice. He brings a wealth of clinical experience to our GI Pathology service. He is committed to providing the highest quality service possible for our GI Pathology clients and patients. With his experience as a Healthcare Leader, I am confident he will guide our GI Team to great success.”

Bruce Walton, AmeriPath’s President of Anatomic Pathology, Eastern Region, commented, “We are pleased and honored that Dr. Uhlemann has joined our team of GI pathologists. His unique experience, expertise and reputation, as both a gastroenterologist and GI pathologist, reinforce the strength and commitment of our medical staff and confirm AmeriPath’s vision of providing quality GI pathology services to our referring physicians. As a physician-driven organization, we understand the needs of clinicians and the importance of providing specialists in their local communities. This is what differentiates AmeriPath from our competition.
